Bio: My name is Yanling Qu. I write about the evolving culture between China and the United States. I cover politics, economics, business, and human rights. I worked as an editor for a prestigious Beijing newspaper for more than two years from 2007 to 2010, and acquired strong journalism skills. All of my work was in Mandarin Chinese. I wrote articles about food, fashion, and tourism, and guided citizens and foreigners to the best places in the city of Beijing. In 2010-2011, I also served more than one year for China General Chamber of Commerce, where I wrote articles to raise awareness about intellectual rights. Afterward, in June of 2014, I interned in Washington, D.C. as political editor’s assistant for WPFW 89.3 FM Radio Station for three months, I operated the radio console for the “In Our Voices” radio program that was a daily program on broadcasting news stories. I also edited stories for “Community Watch and Comment” radio program. In this program, we invited some expert guests and discussed heated news every day. I co-produced a Nelson Mandela segment for a special commemoration of Mandela’s birthday. My dream is to become an international journalist. I’m now a communications student at Cal State East Bay. I came to the United States to further develop my English skills, academic foundation, and professional skills.
